That’s Nice, But…

I suppose this was inevitable…

Former Representative Mark Foley of Florida has checked himself into a rehabilitation facility for alcoholism treatment, and Republican leaders in his state were meeting today to try to find a replacement for Mr. Foley, who resigned abruptly on Friday after reports surfaced of sexually explicit communications with Congressional pages.

(…)

Mr. Foley, Republican, said in a statement distributed to the media that he accepted “full responsibility for the harm I have caused.”

“I strongly believe that I am an alcoholic and have accepted the need for immediate treatment for alcoholism and related behavioral problems,” he said.

In his statement, dated Sunday, Mr. Foley did not specifically address the accusations against him, saying only that “the events that led to my resignation have crystallized recognition of my longstanding significant alcohol and emotional difficulties.”

This is all well and good, and maybe Foley will be able to rehabilitate himself to some degree, but unless Hastert, Boehner, and everyone else involved in the coverup does the same, this does not change the bigger story one tiny little bit.

The Republican leadership knowingly harbored and covered for a sexual predator. Whether said predator was under the influence of alcohol or personal demons is utterly immaterial, except insofar as they did not force him to get help.

Stoopit Blogger.

Argh. Blogger’s been acting funky, and ultimately ended up double-posting my latest Foley post. I can’t delete from my Treo, so all I can do is edit one of the extra posts into a brief soliloquy about how much Blogger sucks.

*clears throat dramatically*

Blogger sucks.

Thank you.

On the plus side, my blog is the #2 search result for “hot scientist.” Hooray!

I Agree With Condi!

Can’t really argue with this…

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said it was “incomprehensible” that she could have ignored dire terrorist threats two months before the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Excellent word choice; I couldn’t agree more.

Secretary Rice said Sunday night that there would have been no need for a “a kind of emergency meeting in which there was a need to shock me, given that every day we were meeting in the Oval Office going over the threat reporting” during the summer of 2001, when spy agencies were flooded with warnings of an imminent Al Qaeda attack.

(…)

“What I can be quite certain of is that I would remember if I was told, as this account apparently says, that there was about to be an attack in the United States,” she said. “The idea that I would have somehow ignored that, I find incomprehensible – especially given that in July, we’re getting a steady stream of quite alarmist reports of potential attacks.”

So let me see if I have this straight. Your alibi hinges on the fact that you were getting a “steady stream” of terror alerts… which you also failed to act upon? Brilliant! No wonder your husb- er, President Bush thinks so highly of you.

Be sure to read the rest of the article – Condi’s huffiness is always a treat.

Monday Media Blogging

A couple of weeks ago, I pointed out the existence of the Mr. T Reality Show as one of the greatest things ever, but I would be remiss if I did not mention the genius that is The Kenny Rogers Reality Show:
A video used to be embedded here but the service that it was hosted on has shut down.

And if that’s not enough, there’s also Kenny Rogers’ Jackass:

And if you liked that, there’s more:
