Yes, Jacob Riis Park has a beach, and, well, it’s rather dismal. Hopefully it’s a lot nicer in the summer…
Apparently I am not the last photographer on Earth.
I like drinking fountains, especially defunct ones.
I guess this is not exactly a surprise…
Um, seriously, I think something terrible has happened to the lifeguards…

I used to go swimming there when I was five or so. When we got home my parents would have to pull all the tar and crap off the bottom of my feet. We called it “Grease Park.”

I don’t know anything about Jacob Riis Park, but that first pic moved me. The pics following it scared me so I focused one the first.
Its wide open spaces with the clearly defined lines of the fence, complimented perpendicularly? by that standpipe thingy…
All of it, told me I was normal.

I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt, that maybe it was better “in season”…

Yeah, it’s pretty bleak and, well… dead. I think the standpipe thingy is actually the water fountain in the next pic, or one just like it.

Wonderful pics. Since I lived in Chincoteague and often went to the beach during off-season, this really feels like home to me. Of course, if it were in Chincoteague, there would be wild ponies too, which is very nice.

Thanks, charley and Ruth!
Yeah, I can totally see the Robert Adams thing, although I was more going for *Charles* Addams…

If you’re still in NY, I hope you check out the new stuff that just opened at the ICP today.
