Meet The Surgin’ General

Yes, I know I’m not the first one to think of it, which means it’s inevitable that it will become this poor sucker’s nickname.
Also, can any military experts tell me if I should read anything into the fact that Petraeus is a Lt. General and not a full one? I.e., that Bush couldn’t find anyone higher-ranking willing to be associated with this mess?

Yo, Eli! Good holidays for you, huh? Seemed so from my quicky catching-up here.
Somewhere I read — today, I think, or yestiddy — that Petraeus’s fourth star comes with this assignment (back in ’05, he had only two). We can, though, wonder whether he calls that’s recompense enough for this burden . . .

Thanks, Mary – I know The Heretik used it before I did, although maybe not in quite the exact same context.

Three stars is still only a lieutenant general? Somehow that doesn’t sound right, but I’m pretty shaky on military nomenclature.
