Oh. What A Relief.

Please disregard my previous post, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about:

The United States is not planning for a war with Iran but is determined to stop Iranians supplying bombs for deadly attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Friday.

(…)

“The president has made clear, the secretary of state has made clear, I’ve made clear … we are not planning for a war with Iran,” Gates told reporters at the Pentagon.

Somehow, I’m not all that reassured – I mean, it’s not like lack of planning stopped them the last time. To me, it just sounds like Gates promised that this war will turn into an even bigger, uglier quagmire than the last one did.

I can hardly wait…

That they’ll go to war with an actual plan? Never happen.

I cant believe they get away with playing stupid!

They’ve got a plan alright, it’s being executed as we blog. They’ve sent cumbersome mine sweepers and two air craft carriers to the region already. We’ve had operatives in Iran for months gathering support from dissidents. We’ll be bombing Iran in no less than six months….unless the new Democratic Congress can stop it somehow.

Assuming they even want to. It boggles my mind that they would ever even *contemplate* supporting an attack on Iran after seeing how badly this administration botched the one on Iraq.

If they *really* think Iran is such a huge threat, they should at least wait until the military has a Commander In Chief who can tie his own shoes.

I would love to find out whether Bush and/or his cronies said similar things about Iraq when we were just getting into Afghanistan… any thoughts from anyone out there?

This reminds me of the “I have no plans on my desk” bullshit they trotted out before March 2003. Like others have said, the Dems need to retract the AUMF and draw up impeachment papers NOW.

I don’t think they did. I don’t recall anyone ever claiming that Iraq was somehow meddling in Afghanistan – the Iraq narrative was always about Saddam’s WMDs and implying that he was responsible for 9/11.

Like others have said, the Dems need to retract the AUMF and draw up impeachment papers NOW.

Yeah,  good luck for them getting re-elected if they let themselves get punk’d *again*, even after getting a four-year long demonstration of how the Bush administration wages war.
