It’s Not A Bug, It’s A Feature

It’s the only explanation I can think of:

Representative Tom Feeney (R-FL) became the second Republican Member of Congress under investigation to be promoted by the Republican Conference in less than a week.

“Apparently, the way to advance in the Republican conference is by being investigated for corruption. Isn’t there a single Republican member who isn’t corrupt who would be better suited for these jobs?” asked Jennifer Crider, Communications Director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Clearly, Republicans haven’t learned their lesson about holding their Members accountable for their wrong doing.”

BACKGROUND – Republican committee assignments have become a corruption merry-go-round:

  • April 19, 2007 – Doolittle steps down from the Appropriations Committee following the FBI raid of his home. Doolittle is under investigation for his work with convicted lobbyist Republican Jack Abramoff
  • May 11, 2007 – The Republican Conference names Ken Calvert – under investigation for a shady land deal — to replace Doolittle on Appropriations.
  • May 15, 2007 – The Republican Conference names Tom Feeney – under investigation for his work with convicted lobbyist Republican Jack Abramoff — to replace Calvert as the senior Republican on the Space Subcommittee of the Science Committee.

I can only assume that the GOP does not trust anyone who is not completely, utterly, hopelessly corrupt.
