Richard Cohen writes a column that doesn’t make me want to throw things! As a matter of fact, I agree with him on the whole entire thing, and I think the distinction between the right to keep guns at home vs. the right to carry guns around in public is a very important one. (I’m not real enthusiastic about either, but the former is a lot less likely to result in people killed by stupidity.)

    Yep, good point. I was thinking about scenarios like VT, where hotheads and would-be heroes would have been shooting at anyone who looked suspicious (probably each other), or people shooting random strangers on the street because they felt threatened, or even just insulted.

    I think any home gun ownership should require an additional burden of security if there are children in the home, but that’s still not going to stop someone who flips out and decides to pop their spouse (which is why the spouse needs to have a gun too!).
