Wanker Of The Day

Harry Reid.

Well this is quite shocking:

Tim Starks of Congressional Quarterly reports that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) plans to bring the Senate’s surveillance bill up for floor debate in mid-November. That’s despite the hold that Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) plans to place on the measure – something first reported by Election Central’s Greg Sargent.

I’m a bit confused here. This just doesn’t happen. So I chatted with someone I know with extensive Hill experience, who said:

“I can’t think of one time when Harry Reid went around his own. It’s just not normal for a leader to do that to his own side. Sometimes you’ll go around Republicans, sometimes they’ll use holds to be “spoilers,” but that happens to the other guy. You just don’t do it to one of your own.”

Consider what happened when Chris Dodd introduced the Emmet Till cold case bill, which called for more money for unsolved civil rights crimes. Tom Coburn put a hold on the bill – and Reid just let it go. The bill died.

Strange set of priorities you’ve got there, Senator Reid.

The Democratic leadership hates progressives far, far more than they hate Republicans. And they fear Republicans far, far more than they fear progressives.

It’s time for new leadership. Or any leadership at all, for that matter.

Pete Stark (D-CA) Is Shrill!

…But I like it.

First of all, I’m just amazed they can’t figure out, the Republicans are worried we can’t pay for insuring an additional 10 million children.  They sure don’t care about finding $200 billion to fight the illegal war in Iraq.  Where ya gonna get that money?  You going to tell us lies like you’re telling us today?  Is that how you’re going to fund the war? You don’t have money to fund the war or children. But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President’s amusement. This bill would provide healthcare for 10 million children and unlike the President’s own kids, these children can’t see a doctor or receive necessary care.  […]

But President Bush’s statements about children’s health shouldn’t be taken any more seriously than his lies about the war in Iraq.  The truth is that Bush just likes to blow things up.  In Iraq, in the United States and in Congress.

More Dems like this, please.

I’m begging.

Nobody’s Perfect(ed)

Renowned conservative hate diva Ann Coulter, apparently disoriented from malnutrition, has now confused herself with Jesus Christ:

On the October 15 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Michael Medved hosted right-wing pundit Ann Coulter to discuss her October 8 assertion on CNBC’s The Big Ideadocumented by Media Matters for America — that “we” Christians “just want Jews to be perfected.” Before airing a clip of Coulter’s comments, Medved said: “[W]hat I wanted to do was to just get clear on the record here … [n]ot only [on] what you said but what you meant. Here is the section of the original interview … that started the process that got you into such heated controversy.” During the subsequent discussion, Coulter asserted, “[A]s long as we’re playing this new sport of ‘he who is offended first wins,’ if anyone’s going to be offended by anyone else’s religion, the Jews believe that my savior, a Jew, was a raving lunatic, and you don’t see me sniffling and crying.”

Of course, Coulter has been delusional for many years, believing, among other things, that Joe McCarthy was an excellent senator, that George W. Bush is an excellent president, and that she herself is, in fact, a Christian.

This last is particularly incredible to me. In the very same sentence in which she says Jews think Jesus was a raving lunatic, she also says, “Christians accept the Old Testament. Jews don’t accept the New Testament…” Has Ann Coulter ever shown the slightest indication that she accepts the New Testament? You know, all that hippie-dippy Jesus stuff about compassion, forgiveness, humility, and generally being excellent to each other?

If anyone’s in desperate need of “perfecting,” it’s Ann Coulter. The Jews are just fine the way they are.

Well, Yeah, I Was Kinda Wondering…

Why Denny Hastert would suddenly decide to retire, rather than just not running for re-election. I had a feeling it might be something bad…

[Brent Wilkes’ nephew and flunky Joel Combs] testified today– just as Hastert let it be known he would be resigning from Congress– that Wilkes had paid “to fly Cunningham and former House Speaker Dennis Hastert from a golf outing in Palm Springs to San Diego for a reception and then back to Washington on private jets.”

Oops. We’ll have to remind everyone that Denny was the Republican Speaker Of The House for 75% of the Bush II Era; we wouldn’t want them to forget.
