What To Do And What Not To Do

In case you hadn’t heard, Pete Stark is shrill:

But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President’s amusement….

But President Bush’s statements about children’s health shouldn’t be taken any more seriously than his lies about the war in Iraq. The truth is that Bush just likes to blow things up. In Iraq, in the United States and in Congress.

Now, of course, the Right (the same people who keep saying Democrats support the terrorists and want us to fail in Iraq) are in full swoon and demanding an apology. Stark and Pelosi are providing a teaching moment of sorts in their responses to the phony outrage.

The Right Way:

After numerous Republicans called on him to apologize, Stark said it was they who should be apologizing, for failing to provide the votes to override Bush’s veto.

The Wrong Way:

“While members of Congress are passionate about their views, what U.S. Rep. Stark said during the debate was inappropriate and distracted from the seriousness of the subject at hand – providing health care for America’s children,” Pelosi said.

It’s “General Betray Us” all over again – except now criticizing the president is out of bounds, too.

You know, just like during the Clinton Years.
