Hey, Here’s A Thought…

So the Democrats are looking at (finally!) paying their campaign media consultants flat or capped fees instead of a percentage of media buys, so that their consultants are no longer incented to focus on quantity over quality or strategy.

This is all well and good, but I wonder if it goes far enough. How about paying their consultants based on whether or not they actually win?

If nothing else, it should convince Bob Shrum to stay retired.

    Merry pre-Gregorian solstice to all.

I think just keeping Shrum retired would be a benefit to this plan all by itself. The strange thing is (I’m by no means the first person to note this), that if in any other service business you’d offered to do work for them, and you’d be in charge of ordering whatever you thought you’d needed and you’d make a profit from that purchase, they’d say you were a pirate. Yet it’s the norm in Democratic political consultancy. Even the Republicans seem to know better than to sign up for that sort of thing.

Well yeah, because the Republicans are focused on winning, rather than maintaining consultants in the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed…

You know, for someone who’s “retired,” Mr. Shrum sure gets a lot of face time on the teebee. It may be that he’s simply found a new cash cow.

Whatever keeps him busy and away from a Democratic campaign is okay by me.

My personal preference would be for him to hook up with the Republican nominee’s campaign – that would certainly keep him occupied.
