Actually, the Constitution does mention religion, in exactly one place:

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

Republicans in particular seem to forget about that one.

And yes, Huckabee's a scary guy now. I always wondered whether his religion meant more to him than his country, and now that appears to be the case.

Oh, and especially when you couple it with their determination to make the growing population of Latino voters (many of whom are social conservatives who would ordinarily vote Republican) vote Democrat for the next hundred years...

Oh, definitely not. And the *really* beauty part is that the Republicans are revealing their true feelings about the fundies far more explicitly than ever before. I want them too demoralized to turn out in droves like they usually do, which would absolutely *cripple* the GOP.

Am I the only one digging the sight of moneycons' heads exploding at the gall of uppity Reverend Cornpone thinking that fundies' role should be more than writing checks to the RNC?

The GOP wanted the religious right; it got 'em. And it gets to explain them. Enjoy the ride, boys.
