Just in case y’all were wondering what happened to Multi Medium, it got hacked and taken over last night, and everything in my main folder got wiped out (but not the database with my posts, thankfully).

As I understand it, there aren’t any super-current backups, so the look and feel might be a little off, and some images may be missing until I have time to re-upload them.

Fun times, fun times.

I wondered what was going on. Sad that you have to rebuild, but good that you haven’t lost everything.

Thanks, guys. Right now I think the biggie is all the posts that have non-gallery images in them. Which is, well, a lot. I’m crossing my fingers that there’s a backup of that image directory somewhere…

[…] really concentrate just yet since my blog status is still kinda up in the air (dunno whether my ad-hoc image files are backed up, and there’s a whole bunch of ‘em), […]

How absolutely awful, Eli. So what exactly happened? You log on and your blog is trashed? Or could you even get in?

How do you go about repairing it? and protecting it from being hacked again?

Is there someone to go to for assistance? (I see you are not the usual blogspot nor WordPress thingie)..

I’m so sorry you had that experience. I think all of us bloggers worry about such an event.

I couldn’t log in at all. And instead of my blog, there was a 403 (forbidden) error page for a bogus Multi Medium site which was one of those cheesy pseudo-search hubs that you sometimes see if you mis-type a URL.

I’m hoping that the webhost has a backup, but if they don’t, then some of my images (not my own photos, but stuff like comix) are irretrievable. ::matthew is looking at hosting alternatives, since I’ve had nothing but problems with this one.
