I'm hoping that he'll take on Edwards as his VP now.

Plusses:

+ BO (do we want a President with those initials?) can take over JE's health care proposal, including mandates.

+ Southern Honky probably plays well with the Lynyrd Skynryd crowd.

Minuses:

+ JE still reaks of the '04 Dem defeat.

+ JE was not a strong attack dog in '04, including doing everything short of rolling over and exposing his belly to Cheney in the VP debate. That would make for two conciliators on the ticket, while I think that BO needs a nasty, snarling behemoth to serve as counterpoint to his reconciliation rhetoric.

Looking back on it now, I suppose that this endorsement was probably in the works for a little while, with the aim of blunting the effect of HC's inevitable WV win in this news cycle. But I'd like to think that JE has reinserted himself into the race in this way in part out of embarrassment for how well he polled in the WV primary among what I can only figure was the "Anyone but the Lady or the Darky" vote. Yeesh. (Go stand in the corner, West Virginia. Bad West Virginia! Bad! Now, you think about what you have done!)
