Plus the folding case gives the device more protection - it's armored on both sides, not just on the back. Not sure about carpal tunnel, but I do agree that touch typing might be a little trickier without physical keys. The hard electronics and connector pieces would be in the tube part and you would pull out only as much as you needed to work.
