Keys To The Convention

Dave Neiwert has an interesting gimmick idea for the Democratic National Convention:

Blue Texan and I were chatting yesterday about how to have some fun with the McCain Housing Crisis at the Democratic National Convention this next week, and we hit on the idea of getting keys on a ring — anywhere between seven and 12 of them, depending on your preference — attach a McSame logo to it, and then jingle them freely throughout the convention.

If you’re going to the convention, get yourself a key ring. Reportedly some purple McSame key tabs are on their way to Denver as we speak. But in the meantime, use your imaginations to devise your own tabs if you can.

In addition to tweaking McCain for having more houses than he can keep track of, it’s also a subtle commentary on the media, and their childlike predilection for following the shiny object to the exclusion of all else.

Although they do prefer Republican shiny objects, so I won’t be at all surprised if this gets zero media traction.

Home Again

Yes, I have returned from my trip, but I’m still getting caught up on everything, so I might still be a bit sporadic until Monday.

Did you know that if you remove a SD card from your laptop’s SD slot without “stopping” it first, that Windows Vista may assign the SD card’s size to every file in the folder you have open?  Imagine my surprise when I went to backup my first memory card’s worth of photos to my external hard drive and found that there was insufficient space because the folder was 414GB?  (Bear in mind that my laptop has an 80GB hard drive.)

Fortunately, I was able to recover the deleted files from the camera memory card, because I was having no luck at all with fixing the 4GB image files…

Friday Quote & Orangutang Blogging

This week’s quote is from the Jim Varney classic, Ernest Goes To Camp (the Ernest movies are actually much funnier than most people realize):

I can take it, Miss St. Cloud. Real men can take it, and I am a real man. A man with a hearty smile, a stout back, with grit in his teeth and nails in his knuckles. A man who has never tasted quiche… Is that your smallest needle?

And, of course, there’ll be other people’s orangutans…

I like orangutans. They always seem so mellow and relaxed.
