If You Liked Bush/Cheney, You’ll Love Palin!

Why is it that I’m never surprised when I read this stuff?

“Just because you’re not gaga over Sarah,” Wasilla city council member Dianne Woodruff told New York Times reporters, “you can’t speak your mind.”…

Today, the New York Times unravels a skein of stories that surfaced over the past week, most of them covered here at Air America, both by our hosts and on the Web. Turns out everything is true….

And there’s more. She is worse than we thought! Yes, she makes the cabal-minded George W. Bush look sane. (“Their secrecy is off the charts,” one Palin victim says.) Yes, she sniffed around the possibilitiy of banning books (Snopes needs to be revised!). Yes, she hires people she’s known since grade school. And yes, if she’s not handing plums to old pals, she’s giving them to dominionists from her fundamentalist church.

The picture that emerges is clear enough. Sarah Palin is precisely what we thought: bad news in a pretty package; a coup de grace from the treasure trove of Roveian wonders. If George W. Bush was, in marketing speak, the wet test, for personality politics, Sarah Palin is the first no-holds-barred launch. If you didn’t like George W. Bush’s presidency, you will hate Palin’s (we learn in the article that she fully intends to be president–watch your back Senator McCain!).

Like W’s presidency, Palin seems to be a socially-challenged homebody. She hires friends. She stays at home. Legislators even had “Where’s Sarah?” buttons made. From the New York Times (reported earlier this week on

Many lawmakers contend that Ms. Palin is overly reliant on a small
inner circle that leaves her isolated. Democrats and Republicans alike
describe her as often missing in action. Since taking office in 2007,
Ms. Palin has spent 312 nights at her Wasilla home, some 600 miles to
the north of the governor’s mansion in Juneau, records show.

The most important revelation here is that Palin’s inner circle spent time and effort figuring out the best way to communicate with each other so that their emails would not be admissable in future legal inquiry. They communicate via Blackberry. Lawmakers learn of vetoes via the evening news. The secrecy and clique-ishness of Palin’s world are similar to our current president. She relies on her oil field worker husband for advice. That’s nice in a way, but mostly it’s just scary.

Vindictive?  Check.  Prefers to hire unqualified cronies?  Check.  Committed to secrecy?  Check.  Dishonest?  Check.  Disengaged and uninformed on the issues?  Check.  Enclosed in a protective bubble?  Check.  Doesn’t like to clock a lot of time at the office?  Check.

Yeah, she’d be a real breath of fresh air, nothing at all like the guys running the executive branch now…

Sunday Choose-Your-Own-Triplane Photoblogging

There’s a little game I sometimes play with the shadowy and mysterious Codename V. called “Color Or Black & White?”, where I send her the color and B&W versions of the same photo and ask her which one she prefers. She almost always picks color, and I almost always pick B&W. I couldn’t decide on this next photo, sooo…

…Or black & white?

This one was a no-brainer, though. I especially like what the light and the grain do with that line of rivets on the left.

R.I.P., McCredibility

When Karl Rove calls you a liar…

WALLACE: What does McCain do that goes a step too far?

ROVE: McCain has gone, in some of his ads, similarly gone one step too far in sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the 100% truth test.
