Welcome To The Emergency Room

…[P]eople have access to health care in America. After all, you just go to an emergency room.
- George W. Bush, July 10, 2007
Remember that? It’s pretty much the Republican approach to healthcare in a nutshell. Ignore all manner of prevention and treatment until the pain becomes excruciating and you’re forced to go to the emergency room, where they make a last-ditch attempt to fix what may already be beyond repair.
Well, you know what? That’s their approach to the economy as well. And after 30 years of deregulation, the financial sector’s sickness has finally become too painful for them to ignore. Heckuva job, Grammie.

That’s a very astute observation. It’s also a very sad one. The only thing missing is that they aren’t even the ones who work in the emergency room. Their stupidity never inconveniences them, just the people who are trying to do something useful.

Thanks. It’s not a perfect analogy, but in both cases the people feeling the pain aren’t the ones calling the shots.
Although some of the financial wizards *may* suffer the ignominy of being busted down from billionaires to millionaires, none of them are going to be the ones who end up flat broke. And certainly none of the politicians who thought deregulation sounded like a swell idea.
