Republicans Bragging About Dirty Tricks

Unbelievable.  It doesn’t surprise me in the least that the Kick-You-When-You’re-Down Party would use a form of voter caging to prevent foreclosed homeowners from voting… but it does surprise me that they would actually tell us about it:

Democrats are concerned that Republican officials in Marion County [Indiana] and elsewhere might use home foreclosure lists as a way to challenge the residency of voters at the polls. The campaign of presidential candidate Barack Obama filed a lawsuit to keep the Michigan GOP from doing just that.

County GOP Chairman Tom John said foreclosure opens the door to a residency challenge, but he said his party has no plans to pursue such challenges. However, he wouldn’t rule it out.

“We might end up challenging on that,” he said. “It’s entirely possible. I think it would be a solid basis for asking someone to vote provisionally.”

(…)

John said his main goal is to ensure the integrity of the election.

“Our position is that every person entitled to vote should be encouraged to vote,” John said. “Anybody whose home is already in foreclosure isn’t actually living in the home and might not be a valid voter.”

Lovely.  That’ll really show working-class Americans how much Republicans care about them.

I’m still surprised that they’re publicly admitting to this rather than denying that they would ever do such a horrible, callous thing and then going ahead and doing it anyway.

B&W Duesenberg Photoblogging

More from the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. For what it’s worth, I think Duesenbergs are the most beautiful automobiles ever made. I probably didn’t do this one justice.

Oh, and it was bright red (I’d say more fire-engine than cherry or candy-apple), but the sky and grass were washed-out and crappy-looking. Besides, B&W is kind of my natural predilection anyway…

Couldn’t Happen To A Nicer Guy

For some reason, I just can’t seem to muster up any outrage…

The American author of a book critical of Barack Obama is being detained in Kenya while his immigration status is checked, a senior immigration official said Tuesday.

Jerome Corsi, who wrote “The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality,” was being held at immigration headquarters in Nairobi after police picked him up from his hotel Tuesday, said Carlos Maluta, a senior immigration official in charge of investigations.

“We still haven’t decided what to do with him,” Maluta told The Associated Press.

He said Corsi did not have a temporary work permit needed to conduct business in Kenya.

A Republican dirty tricks operative breaking the rules?  Incredible!

Maverick Vs. Maverick

That’s not a Maverick – that’s a sidekick.

Shorter actual Maverick:

Senator McCain, I come from a long line of Mavericks.  My father was a Maverick, my grandfather and great-grandfather were Mavericks, all the way back to Samuel Augustus Maverick in the 1800s.  And you, sir, are no Maverick.

Bob Casey was right.
