My favorite Eurythmics song and video, Love Is A Stranger:

You kids out there may not remember this, but about 25 years ago, Annie Lennox was quite possibly the sexiest woman on earth.

UPDATE: Oh my.

I agree with both sentiments. The song is best, and she was terribly hot. I know I thought that anyone who thought Madonna was sexy but paid no mind to Annie was utterly unworthy of my attention.

My favorite thing she did, though, was her first appearance at the Grammys. America had just wrapped its tiny mind around the idea of a pop star who was a vaguely butch woman with orange close-cropped hair, and then the Eurythmics come out to do “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” and, …

… well, I’ll just let YouTube take it from here. Do we have a clip? Can we roll the clip?

Wow. I had never seen that. Way cool, although not exactly what I’d call sexy. But then, Hugh Jackman was never really my type…

I just thought it was so hilarious and bold. Even today, if an up and coming female singer were to appear on the Grammys, she might to it in mild drag, with a derby and a bolo time or some such shit. Or do some Victor/Victoria Julie Andrews stuff. But *sideburns*? I thought that was more subversive than any shit I’d seen Sid Vicious or Jello Biafra do, and it was more “shocking” and transgressive than anything Madonna did afterwards. In fact, here’s a topic: “Madonna has spent her entire career trying to do what Annie Lennox has done. But she hasn’t the wit, brains, or talent to pull it off.” Discuss.

The Jackman reference is apt, but I think she’s got more of a Kevin Corrigan vibe going on.

Kyle McLachlan really looked like her. That was a cold, cold moment in SNL history. Funny, though. Unlike the Gov. Patterson stuff, which was just a stupid sort of cold.
