Missed Obamartunity

The most frustrating thing about the halfassedness of the stimulus bill is the sheer magnitude of the opportunity that’s being wasted.  We have the kind of crisis which provides not only breathing room, but demand, for bold, decisive action.  We have the undeniable political mandate of back-to-back Democratic landslide elections.  And we have a new president with the charisma, aura, and salesmanship to make the case for why a major stimulus and reconstruction bill is vital to our economic health.  And yet it’s not happening.

Obama and the Democrats have all the necessary ingredients to push through something truly positive and effective except for the most important one: The courage to listen to the people who were right instead of the people who were wrong.  And we will all pay dearly for it when the Republicans re-take the government and finish what Bush started.

Quote Of The Day

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert:

Our fight is not with the people of Gaza.

Well, in all fairness, I can see where a lot of people might get the wrong idea, what with you indiscriminately bombing them to a pulp and all.  But I’m sure the Gazans will all be very relieved to hear that it was all just a big misunderstanding, and you only want to wipe out the government that they democratically elected.  Bygones!
