What The Right Has Wrought

I hope the right-wing hatemongers are all very proud of themselves, that they inspired this man to go out and do something about those damn libruls:

Jim David Adkisson wanted to leave no doubt of his motive in opening fire inside a West Knoxville church last year.

“This was a hate crime,” Adkisson wrote in a four-page “manifesto” he had left inside his truck and intended to serve as a suicide letter.

(…)

“Guilty as charged,” Adkisson told Knox County Criminal Court Judge Mary Beth Leibowitz this morning.

“This was a symbolic killing,” Adkisson wrote. “Who I wanted to kill was every Democrat in the Senate and House, the 100 people in Bernard Goldberg’s book. I’d like to kill everyone in the mainstream media. But I knew these people were inaccessible to me.

“I couldn’t get to the generals and high-ranking officers of the Marxist movement so I went after the foot soldiers, the chicken (expletive) liberals that vote in these traitorous people.”

(…)

Adkisson devotes one page of his manifesto to the Unitarian Universalist Church itself. The grandfather-turned-killer once attended TVUUC with his now ex-wife.

“I’d like someone to do an expose on this church,” he wrote. “It’s a den of un-American vipers.'”

A lot of conservatives, including high-profile ones like Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, and pretty much everyone on hate radio, actually talk like this.  It’s not surprising that someone took them literally – it’s surprising that more haven’t.
