Rush Limbaugh Rules Their World

Wow.  One of the RNC’s three black members (they have three???) wants Michael Steele to step down as RNC Chair for committing the unpardonable sin of dissing Rush Limbaugh and, apparently, being too black:

In an e-mail to fellow RNC members obtained by The Hill, Dr. Ada Fisher, North Carolina’s national committeewoman, said Steele is “eroding confidence” in the GOP and that members of his transition team should encourage him to step aside. Fisher added Steele’s personal e-mail address to the e-mail.

I don’t want to hear anymore [sic] language trying to be cool about the bling in the stimulus package or appealing to D.L. Hughley and blacks in a way that isn’t going to win us any votes and makes us frankly appear to many blacks as quite foolish,” Fisher wrote.

Fisher, who is one of three black members of the national committee, backed South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson, whom Steele edged out in the final round of voting to win the chairmanship in late January. She has voiced repeated opposition to Steele, sending dozens of e-mails to committee members even after Steele won election slamming him for any number of chips that have fallen awry.

(…)

“Limbaugh has already promised that ‘His Conservatives’ won’t be giving to the RNC. I would suggest to you that that is a real bet,” Fisher wrote. “If we can’t raise money and continue to allow the alienation of the few varifiable [sic] red states remaining, we are foolish.”

Hey, if the RNC wants someone really Rush-friendly, how about Chip Saltsman, the guy who sent all the RNC members a complementary CD of Rush Limbaugh’s greatest hits, including “Barack The Magic Negro,” when he was running for chair?

Instead of having a debate over whether Rush Limbaugh or Michael Steele is the head of the GOP, how much fun would it be to have a debate about whether Rush or one of his dittoheads is the head of the GOP?  As much of a jackass as Michael Steele is, he does have a different and slightly less repellent vision for his party than Rush does, as well as providing the illusion of inclusivity.

But if the RNC replaces Steele with Saltsman, or even just another right-wing white Friend Of Rush, that would pretty much vaporize the last of the GOP’s plausible deniability that it’s not the party of bigotry and hate.  Their base would be ecstatic, but everyone else in the country would just be repelled.

Cringemaking Quote Of The Day

From the founder of the perhaps-too-revealingly-named Hooters-like “breastaurant” Bone Daddy:

The girls that work here are drop-dead gorgeous and as friendly as you want them to be.  If I had a 19-year-old daughter … this is the only placed I’d want her to work, because I know how committed we are to creating a great environment to work in.

Sounds like it’s a good thing this guy doesn’t have a 19-year-old daughter.  Eww.

School Is Supposed To Prepare You For The World, After All…

Reader and good friend Spear and Magic tipped me off to what may very well be the Greatest Onion Story Of All Time:

ARKHAM, MA—Arguing that students should return to the fundamentals taught in the Pnakotic Manuscripts and the Necronomicon in order to develop the skills they need to be driven to the very edge of sanity, Arkham school board member Charles West continued to advance his pro-madness agenda at the district’s monthly meeting Tuesday.

“Fools!” said West, his clenched fist striking the lectern before him. “We must prepare today’s youth for a world whose terrors are etched upon ancient clay tablets recounting the fever-dreams of the other gods—not fill their heads with such trivia as math and English. Our graduates need to know about those who lie beneath the earth, waiting until the stars align so they can return to their rightful place as our masters and wage war against the Elder Things and the shoggoths!”

(…)

“Our schools are orderly, sanitary places where students dwell in blissful ignorance of the chaos that awaits,” West said. “Should our facilities be repaired? No, they must be razed to the ground and rebuilt in the image of the Cyclopean dwellings of the Elder Gods, the very geometry of which will drive them to be possessed by visions of the realms beyond.”

West has served on the school board since 1997, when he defeated 89-year-old incumbent Doris Pesce by promising to enforce dress codes and refer repeat disciplinary cases to the three-lobed burning eye. He has run unopposed ever since.

“Charles sure likes to bang on that madness drum,” fellow school board member Danielle Kolker said. “I’m not totally sold on his plan to let gibbering, half-formed creatures dripping with ichor feed off the flesh and fear of our students. But he is always on time to help set up for our spaghetti suppers, and his bake sale goods are among the most popular.”

(…)

“Last month, he wanted us to change the high school’s motto from ‘Many Kinds of Excellence’ to ‘Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn,'” PTA member Cathy Perry said. “I asked if it was Latin, and he said that it was the eldritch tongue of Shub- Niggurath, the Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young. I don’t know from eldritch tongues, but I’m not sure that’s such a good idea.”

(…)

“In the information age, it is easier than ever to gather knowledge about things that should not be but nonetheless are, and such wisdom could prepare our students to be better citizens amid the ruins of sunken cities infested with swarms of ravenous, bloated rats,” West said. “Also, I believe that birth control should not be distributed by the guidance counselor.”

I have a feeling that West’s message is probably getting a little bit more traction these days.

This Is Totally My Kind Of Thing

By way of the NY Daily News, I learned of photographer Ian Ference, whose specialty is taking pictures of abandoned buildings.  This is exactly what I would do if I had the time and werewithal to get to lots of abandoned buildings.  I love architecture, and I love grunge and decay.

Some of my favorite shots:

Ooo…

Check out his site, it’s awesome.  I’m envious.
