Right-Wing Spin Of The Week

Hey, remember when Laura Ingraham called Meghan McCain “plus-sized” after Ms. McCain wrote about how mean-spirited and nasty conservatives are?  Apparently it was a comment on our dysfunctional image-obsessed society and not a slap at Meghan McCain’s weight in any way!

“Let the record show: I never called Meghan McCain fat! She isn’t!” Ingraham said. “And as I have repeatedly said on my radio show and on Fox, she is an attractive young woman. If that throwaway comic line highlighted anything, it was Hollywood’s obsession with stick-figure women!” Later, she added, “This diversion about — ‘Oh, it’s about her weight’ — my point was that she has no real world political experience to make the case for moderation.”

So, when Ingraham mimicked Meghan McCain saying, “Ok, I was really hoping that I was going to get that role in the Real World, but then I realized that, well, they don’t like plus-sized models,” what she really meant was, “Ok, I was really hoping that I was going to get that role in the Real World, but then I realized that, well, our society is so hung up on unreasonable standards of thinness that media executives could never accept a healthy, normal-sized woman.”

I don’t know how we all failed to pick up on that, especially from a compassionate social crusader like Ingraham.
