Monday Media Blogging

Mock-instructional jitterbug video from 1944:

Great dance sequences, and the narration is hilarious.

Finally, Some Good News

Not on healthcare, but I’ll take what I can get:

Some Pennsylvania insiders believe the Specter campaign’s aggressive pushback is a result of being spooked by Sestak’s strong second-quarter fundraising haul. Between April and June, Sestak’s campaign committee took in roughly $1 million — less than Specter’s $1.7 million but an impressive sum that Sestak operatives note came despite resistance from the Pennsylvania Democratic political establishment, which is backing Specter.

I find it very encouraging that the peabrained party establishment is not going to be able to starve Sestak out of the race.  Probably because so many Democrats really really hate Specter and are appalled by the idea of him pretending to represent their party.

The Right Wing Is Genuinely Crazy

Seriously, what the hell is WRONG with these people?

Here’s Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.), a moderate Republican who hasn’t announced whether he’s running for re-election or for the U.S. Senate next year, at a town hall meeting earlier this month.

A woman gets up, holding a baggie containing her birth certificate, and unleashes a rambling, minute-long tirade tirade about how the president is a “citizen of Kenya.” The crowd hoots and cheers when she’s done. Castle responds, diplomatically: “Well I don’t know what comment that invites. If you’re referring to the president, then he is a citizen of the United States.” That elicits roars and boos from the crowd, so Castle presses on. “You can boo, but he is a citizen of the United States.”

And they have at least three and a half years to get even crazier.

Wankers Of The Day

The Blue Dogs:

House Democratic leaders have rapidly and methodically tackled their and President Obama’s big-ticket agenda this year as if they were knocking down a row of dominoes, not losing a single important vote.

But with razor-thin House passage of climate change legislation last month and with a sweeping $1 trillion-plus healthcare overhaul up next, a growing number of Democrats in both chambers are urging House Speaker Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Reid and Obama to let up on the gas.

“I would say that we’re moving way too fast, particularly with some of the larger bills,” said Rep. Gene Taylor, D-Miss., a member of the Blue Dog Coalition.

“Doing these things in two or three weeks — that in some instances have trillion-dollar implications for the nation — is a terrible way to do this,” said Taylor.

I wonder how many of these hypocritical asshats had no problem voting for the Patriot Act, which got slammed through so quickly that no-one even had time to read it.  I’m guessing… all.  I suspect these oh-so-very-responsible fiscal conservatives also voted for the Iraqupation and Bush’s tax cuts.
