Bad Faith

So I see it has finally reached the point where Max Baucus and Kent Conrad have given the Republicans everything they’ve asked for in the healthcare reform bill, and the Republicans are still unanimously refusing to vote for it.  I can’t really say I’m surprised on either count.

I guess there’s two ways this can go now.  Either Obama and the Democrats can brandish this as proof that trying to negotiate with the Party Of No is truly futile, and jam a much stronger bill through budget reconciliation… or they can reset this compromise of the compromise as the new starting point, and see if they can find a way to compromise that so some Republicans will vote for it.

Or they could forget that they’re not getting any Republican votes and just jam the Baucus Bill through reconciliation.   That would be awesome.

Hey, am I the only one who wishes the insurance industry were more like NARAL and Planned Parenthood? Then Snowe and Collins could vote for cloture, then vote against the bill, and still get effusive thanks for their loyalty.
