The Continuing Quest For The Perfect Potemkin Public Option

December 8th, 2009at 11:31am Posted by Eli

I know I’m stating the obvious here, but for quite some time now the congressional Democrats’ plan has not been to find a “compromise” which will allow them to pass healthcare reform with a meaningful public option, but rather to pass healthcare reform that looks just enough like it has one so that the progressive bloc can vote for it and claim that they’ve kept their word.  They’re still not quite there yet, but they keep trying.

I’m still kind of surprised that the Republicans don’t seize upon this opportunity to pass “reform” that increases the insurance industry’s revenue base without imposing any serious penalties or restrictions on them in return.
