Friday Quote & Panda Blogging

This week’s quote is the introductory narration from the inimitable Ninja Vengeance, which would perhaps be more accurately titled Inept Fugitive With Some Ninja Training:

Like the fathers of your grandfathers, it was your destiny to become a ninja.  From the teachers of far-off lands, your ancestors discovered the secrets of the universe, and the means to complete joy in existence.  For this, they were hunted down in their mountain homes by religionists who feared the potential of enlightened common men.  Thus was born the legend of The Invisible Warriors – mountain mystics who guided their powers into ways of protecting the innocents that they loved, and the truths that they sheltered.

Yours is a legacy of service to those in need, protection to those in distress, and strength to those who are overpowered.  Your art is Ninjitsu, The Way Of Stealth – silent means of working your will without action.  Your reward is spiritual growth, the opportunity to be a conscious part of the scheme of totality.  Welcome… to the family.

Did I mention that almost every single cast member never appeared in any other movie?  And for good reason.

And, of course, there’ll be other people’s pandas…

Hypothetical Question

If it  were conclusively shown that the only way to save the country from a huge existential crisis was to sacrifice an extremely unpopular business sector that spends tons of money on campaign contributions, ad buys and lobbyists, could it be done?

Personally, I don’t think it would even get a vote.

Mixed Messaging

On the one hand, Democrats pointing out that Republicans were for mandates before they were against them is great for showcasing what hypocrites Republicans are, and that they’re such reflexively obstructionist assholes that they’d happily vote against their own healthcare reform plan rather than let Democrats claim what they believe to be a victory.

On the other hand, is “We passed a Republican plan with no Republican votes!  Go us!” really something the Democrats want to brag about?  Especially when so many people are already worried that the bill is way too conservative and business-friendly as it is?
