Why Didn’t This Occur To Anybody?

Hey, here’s a crazy idea: If a whole bunch of people need jobs, why not just hire them to do positive stuff that we need done anyway? We have 10% unemployment and our infrastructure is falling apart – it’d be a win-win, just like it was 75 years ago.

    You should read MercRising, Eli. Then you’d know why the powers that be haven’t done it: they’re just discovering that the way to encourage consumers is to give them money, generally in exchange for work:

    He also says that the people running the finance system have forgotten the basic lesson of the Great Depression: if no one is willing to borrow, because of fear or because of debt, economic growth can only be re-started by giving people work.
