So given the choice between preventing the next financial meltdown and protecting their Wall Street donors, guess which Congress chose.

But hey, at least they did enough to make it look like they’re taking the financial crisis seriously, and that’s all that really matters, right?

    So many proponents of the bill describe its point as “restoring Americans’ confidence” in their financial institutions. That is telling. Not making sure that the confidence is warranted, but that it is restored.

    We basically have a potemkin government that is committed to the *appearance* of reform to stave off demand for the real thing.
