Republican Party So Corrupt Even Republicans Disgusted

Wow.  This is just amazing – a Florida Republican just completely goes off on Rick Scott and the rampant corruption in her own party.  It’s just too bad that Obama and the Democrats aren’t much better.

There may not be much difference in type, Eli, but there’s a huge difference in magnitude. Democrats are famous for petty graft ala William Jefferson: $100K in order to get some preference in regulation. Republicans specialize in ripoffs that boggle the mind, like tax goodies adding up to hundreds of billions or trillions of dollars. Or take sex scandals. We get a guy fondling an aide and another guy texting smutty pictures. They have a guy promoting sex slavery on the Marianas.

I think that the misbehavior we see is very predictable. What does it take to get elected? You have to be psychopathically charismatic, have access to lots of cash (either personal or from the people you’ve seduced), and be willing to do more or less what you’re ordered to do by the machers of your party. Once you fulfill the requirements, you get access to all kinds of goodies, including inside stock information, membership on the boards of prominent organizations, and access to high-paying jobs as a corporate board member or lobbyist on retirement. Predictable result: the people who end up in politics are often greedy, amoral sociopaths.

Democrats are a lot cheaper to maintain and do less damage.
