And yet still more photos from the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, which have absolutely nothing in common other than that they’re all pictures of cars. And a jeep.

I love all the shiny polished chrome on the vintage cars, and the distorted reflections that come with it. The Catch-22 is that it’s hard to keep my own reflection out of the picture, but I think I mostly managed to do so with these:

More from the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. For what it’s worth, I think Duesenbergs are the most beautiful automobiles ever made. I probably didn’t do this one justice.
Oh, and it was bright red (I’d say more fire-engine than cherry or candy-apple), but the sky and grass were washed-out and crappy-looking. Besides, B&W is kind of my natural predilection anyway…

Here’s the first batch of photos from the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. I wasn’t really feeling it, possibly because I had already been there and done that, but some of them actually came out pretty well.

I really liked the light on the old mailplane’s wings.

Fisheye + Airport = QUALITY!
Looking towards the security line, and the Miss Pittsburgh mail plane.
Looking towards the escalators up to ticketing.
Looking down at the elevator. One of the tricky things about fisheye photography is keeping your own feet out of the frame. FAIL.

Some more ice sculpture photos. I kinda like the second one better in B&W, but then you can’t see the row of red flowers reflected in the tip of the swan tail (you’ll probably need to click on it for a closer look).

As promised, fun with ice sculptures:
Abstract.
Abstract.
Less abstract.
Swan.

Actually, I’m not 100% sure that these are the last of the demolition photos, but they’re definitely the last ones before I started taking pictures of ice sculptures and the Pittsburgh airport…
I liked the way the bricks of the fireplace lined up with the gap in the bricks of the arch.
On the one hand, I kinda like the simpler, more striking composition here…
…But I also thought the chair was kinda cool.
Random vertical girder for no apparent reason. You’ll have that.

Probably only enough for one or two more posts. Next up: Ice sculpture photoblogging!
Mmm, construction equipment…
Wow, God really is everywhere! (Hopefully He’s visible; if not, try clicking on the photo for a larger version)
Another angle on God…

Just a quick couple of demolition shots to pass the time…
Demolition actually in progress!
It looked like they kept the first floor wall intact mainly to serve as a repository for all the debris.

Yes, there are rather a lot of these. And I’m even trying to be selective.
This is an appalling waste of incongruous pinkness, but it really does look better in black & white. Also, just to brag on my camera a little: On the original full-size image, that warning label is very clearly readable.
I liked the shapes, but I couldn’t get the walls and ceiling as white as I would have liked. Also, if I had a really powerful telephoto, I could have done something with the cool distorted reflections of the ruined building in the light fixture. (Yes, I’m bragging on my camera again…)
Apparently it’s important to keep the building wet while it’s being demolished. Who knew.

Generally demolition and construction/roadwork-oriented…
Creepy demolition windows.
The garage of the building being demolished, which appears to be some kind of temporary base of operations.
Between the cement mixer, the flowers, and the Fear Nothing sign, I’m getting some serious mixed signals.
A more picturesque and shadowy angle on the cement mixer.

Yes, today’s subject is a bit… specific, but I have an awful lot of demolition shots of the church rectory that is being slowly dismantled to make room for the new arena. This isn’t even all of the window shots…

Just a couple of unplanned on-the-way-home kind of photos:
I was on my way back from taking fisheye photos and I liked the lighting in the alleyway. The end result exceeded my expectations.
I just missed the shot I really wanted, when the dumptruck and the Roadtec thingy were both tilted up into more of a V.
I am The World’s Slowest Photographer, especially when my camera is tucked away in its bag because I don’t expect to see anything requiring Urgent Photographic Action.

Well, probably not the final fisheye photoblogging ever, but the last for now:
I explore exciting new horizons in photographing puddles on cobblestones…
Fun with reflections in the PPG building.
Kinda looks like an alien spaceship that crash-landed.
Security guard explains to the nice photographer that no pictures of the alien spaceship are allowed (D’oh!). Have I mentioned that the security guard is, like, the natural enemy of the photographer?

Mostly from the Three Rivers Arts Festival:
A 7-11 that has absolutely nothing to do with the arts festival.
The non-creepy-elephant portion of the carousel.
Pavilion canopy for musical performances.

If you thought they were disturbing and badwrong before, you should see them through the Brain-Eating Fisheye Of Horror:
GAH!
I’m the one who took ‘em, and I’m still creeped right the hell out.
I am theoretically back from vacation now, but it may take a while for me to regain my bearings and remember how to blog again.

Not really any theme here at all. I believe I was on my way to the Three Rivers Arts Festival.
Some sort of mini-crane or other kind of construction equipment.
Bicycle. Maybe a little too easy.
The USX Tower, and I think the Doubletree.

I did have a very photographically fruitful day at the San Diego Zoo yesterday (although I missed the enormous silverback gorilla charging at the glass to establish dominance), but I’ll probably save most of those for Friday Quote & ____ Blogging. I did manage to process just enough fisheye photos to keep the photoblogging going, though.
I forgot to check my lightmeter before taking my first photo of the day, so it was just a teensy bit overexposed. But I thought it actually looked kinda cool, so I just went with it. This version is actually pulled back from the brink a little bit - you can see the less-processed version here.
Exhibit #431A of How To Take Pictures That Make Passersby Think You’re Insane.
I’m pretty sure this is another one of those put-the-sun-directly-behind-the-subject-and-see-what-happens photos… Also a bit of a self-portrait, unfortunately. I like the B&W version too.

Coupla more fisheye photos from work:
A little table-cube thingy for resting your food on while you open the door.
Water fountains.
This is it for photoblogging for a while unless I can find time to process some more.
